Classical Academic Press

$113.80

A Pennsylvania publisher of classical K–12 curriculum, best known for Song School Latin, Latin for Children, Writing & Rhetoric and The Art of Argument, with video lessons, online practice and live classes through Scholé Academy.

What is Classical Academic Press?

Classical Academic Press (CAP) is a publisher based in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, founded in 2001 by Christopher Perrin and partners. Its motto is "Classical Subjects Creatively Taught." It makes K–12 courses in Latin, Greek, Spanish, writing, grammar, logic, history, literature and science.

CAP also runs Scholé Academy for live online classes, ClassicalU for teacher training, and the Novare Science imprint for upper-level science.

How Classical Academic Press works

You buy one subject at a time. Most programs bundle a student edition, a teacher's edition, video lessons and extras like chants, songs or online practice games.

Take Song School Latin Book 1. It has 31 weekly lessons for grades 1–2. Each week your child watches a short video with a teacher and Simeon the Monkey, sings a Latin song, and does a few workbook pages. Older programs like Latin for Children add chants, grammar drills and activity books.

Video comes by streaming or DVD. Homeschoolers keep streaming access for the life of the product.

Each Latin for Children primer counts as half a high school credit, and each Latin Alive! book as a full credit.

Who it's best for

CAP suits classical families building their own plan subject by subject, and anyone who wants to start Latin early in a fun way. Co-ops like it because the videos and chants work well in groups.

It's not an all-in-one curriculum. If you want every subject planned for you, look at Memoria Press or Veritas Press.

Pricing at a glance

As of October 2026, the Song School Latin Book 1 Program lists at $113.80 (on sale for $102.95), and the Latin for Children Primer A Program lists at $146.75 (on sale from $132.95). Single books cost about $22 to $32. Orders over $75 ship free. Physical returns are allowed within 60 days; digital items are final.

Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?

Often. Curriculum like this is commonly allowed in ESA programs such as Arizona's Empowerment Scholarship Account and Florida's FES-UA. Scholé Academy also links to state funding information for its classes. Each program decides.
