Questions

What is a scholarship granting organization?

A scholarship granting organization (SGO) is a nonprofit that collects donations and awards K–12 scholarships to families. In states with tax-credit scholarship programs, donors get a state tax credit for giving to an approved SGO. Some states call them STOs, SSOs or scholarship organizations.

How do I apply for an SGO scholarship?

Each SGO runs its own application, usually once a year, and sets its own income and grade rules. Open an SGO’s profile for how its families apply. On Edulist you can save products to a wishlist and subscribe for future opening updates. Applications are not open here.

How does the federal tax credit change SGOs?

From January 1, 2027, donors can claim a federal credit of up to $1,700 for gifts to SGOs in states that opt in and list them, under Treasury’s proposed rules. Check whether your state has opted in before you give.
