The BASIC Fund
The BASIC Fund is a San Francisco Bay Area scholarship granting organization and Children's Scholarship Fund partner. It helps low-income families pay tuition at more than 250 private schools in the Bay Area, from preschool through 8th grade, and says it has provided almost 30,000 scholarships since 1998. Its board covers administrative costs, so donations go to scholarships. It tries to keep siblings together at the same school.

For families
Families apply online; see basicfund.org/how-to-apply for current dates and income guidelines.
For donors
Gifts are tax-deductible charitable donations. California has not opted in to the federal scholarship tax credit as of October 2026, so federal-credit gifts must go to SGOs in participating states.
