Blossom and Root

Secular, nature-based homeschool curriculum inspired by Charlotte Mason and Waldorf, sold as downloadable PDFs from Early Years (ages 2–4) through upper elementary. Each level has 36 weeks of plans for language arts, science, nature study and art; families add their own math.

What is Blossom and Root?

Blossom and Root is a secular homeschool curriculum started in 2015 by Kristina Garner, a former kindergarten teacher. It began as a blog about her family's homeschool and grew into a full program. The approach is gentle, hands-on and centered on nature, drawing on both Charlotte Mason and Waldorf ideas.

Everything is sold as PDF downloads that you print at home or at a print shop.

How it works

Each level gives you 36 weeks of plans. Most lessons are short, about 10 minutes in Early Years and about 20 minutes in Level 1. Plan on 30 to 60 minutes a day for preschool and 1 to 2 hours a day in Level 1, four or five days a week. Weekly prep usually takes 30 to 45 minutes.

A typical week mixes a read-aloud, narration and copywork, a science lesson with a notebook page, a nature walk prompt, and a picture or composer study with an art project. Books come from the library or used shops, and supplies are basic household and art items.
