Cambly Kids
Cambly Kids offers live, 1-on-1 online English lessons for children ages 4 to 15 with native English-speaking tutors. Courses follow the CEFR scale from A1 to C1, and families choose a Casual (2 days a week) or Immersive (3–5 lessons a week) plan.
What is Cambly Kids?
Cambly Kids is the children's side of Cambly, an online English tutoring company. It connects kids ages 4 to 15 with native English-speaking tutors for live, 1-on-1 video lessons. Cambly says many of its tutors hold graduate degrees from universities in the US, UK, Canada and Australia.
It's an English program. In the US, it fits families whose children are learning English as a second language, or bilingual kids who want more speaking practice.
How it works
- Create a parent account. Add a profile for each child and pick a starting level.
- Book a trial. One full 30-minute lesson per family, starting with the first lesson of your child's course.
- Choose a plan. Casual means 2 days a week; Immersive means 3 to 5 lessons a week.
- Schedule lessons. Pick a day, time and available tutor. Lessons start and end on time, even if your child joins late.
Reschedule or cancel at least 12 hours ahead. If a tutor misses a lesson, you get the minutes back right away. A 4-digit parent PIN protects account settings.
What it covers
Courses follow the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), from A1 for beginners to C1 for advanced students. Each lesson follows five steps:
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| See | New words with pictures, no translation |
| Hear | Native pronunciation in context |
| Speak | Child builds their own sentences with feedback |
| Relate | Games connect words to the child's life |
| Analyze | Older students share ideas and opinions |
Lessons mix games, songs and vocabulary and grammar activities. Parents and tutors can adjust the course as the child progresses.
Who it's best for
Cambly Kids fits children who need to speak English more, whether they're new to the US or getting ready for an English-language school. Kids who like talking with adults tend to do best.
If you want group classes or more subjects, try Outschool. Novakid is a close rival with a game-style platform and public starting prices.
Pricing at a glance
Cambly Kids doesn't list prices publicly. You'll see them after creating a parent account. Plans are priced by minutes per week and length, with discounts for longer commitments, and each child needs their own plan. Read the refund rules before choosing a 12-month plan.
Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?
Possibly, but it's not a sure thing. Programs like Arizona's ESA and Florida's FES-UA set credential and vendor rules for tutors, and an international tutoring platform may not meet them. Read what ESA funds can buy, then save Cambly Kids to your wishlist and apply once to the scholarships that fit.
How it compares
- Novakid teaches English to ages 4–15 with a game world and plans from about $95 a month.
- Preply Kids lets you choose any tutor and price, billed every 28 days.
- Homeschool Spanish Academy is the live-teacher option for Spanish.
