Preply Kids

Preply is an online tutoring marketplace with more than 100,000 tutors. Its tutors-for-kids section lets parents pick a 1:1 tutor for languages, math or school subjects, book a trial lesson, then subscribe to a weekly lesson plan billed every 28 days.

What is Preply Kids?

Preply is a large online tutoring marketplace based in Brookline, Massachusetts. It lists more than 100,000 tutors from over 180 countries, teaching 120+ subjects. Preply Kids refers to its tutors-for-kids section, where parents can find tutors who work with children, mostly for languages but also for math and school subjects.

Preply is a marketplace, not a school. You choose the tutor, and the tutor plans the lessons.

How it works

  1. Find a tutor. Filter by subject, price, availability and the tutor's languages. Watch intro videos and read reviews.
  2. Book a trial. Pick a 25- or 50-minute trial lesson. It's paid, and it's charged when you book.
  3. Subscribe. If you like the tutor, choose a weekly plan. You pay for 28 days of lessons up front, and the plan renews every 28 days.
  4. Learn in Preply Classroom. Lessons happen on video. Between lessons, your child can message the tutor and use practice tools.

If the trial isn't a fit, you can request a free replacement trial with another tutor, up to 2 per account. You can switch tutors later too.

For younger kids, stay nearby during the first lessons and keep all communication on Preply.

Who it's best for

Preply works best for families who want a budget-friendly 1:1 tutor, especially for a second language, and who are happy to choose a tutor themselves. Language practice with a native speaker is where it stands out.

Look elsewhere if you want a structured US curriculum or a company that vets and assigns tutors. Varsity Tutors handles matching for you, and Brighterly runs structured math and reading lessons. For kids' language programs built around a curriculum, see Novakid or Homeschool Spanish Academy. Browse languages and tutoring.

Pricing at a glance

Tutors set their own prices. As of October 2026, the kids tutor filters run from $3 to $40+ per lesson, and many experienced tutors charge about $30–$70 for 50 minutes. Expect a paid trial, then a 28-day auto-renewing plan with a processing fee. Refunds are possible only if no lessons from that cycle were used.

Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?

It depends on the tutor. Arizona ESA allows tutoring from individuals who meet its credential rule, and Florida's FES-UA requires part-time tutors to hold specific credentials and register with the program. Many marketplace tutors won't meet those rules. Read what ESA funds can buy, then save Preply to your wishlist and apply once to the scholarships that fit your family.

Preply Kids FAQs

How much does Preply cost?

Tutors set their own prices. As of October 2026, Preply's kids tutor search filters span $3 to $40+ per lesson, and many experienced tutors list about $30–$70 for 50 minutes. After a paid trial, you subscribe to a weekly plan billed every 28 days, plus a processing fee.

Is Preply legit?

Yes. Preply is an established tutoring company based in Brookline, Massachusetts, with more than 100,000 tutors and a 4.4 TrustScore from over 25,000 Trustpilot reviews as of October 2026. The main complaints involve subscription renewals and refunds, so read those terms first.

Does Preply have a free trial?

No. The first trial lesson is paid. If it doesn't go well, you can request a free replacement trial with a different tutor, up to 2 times per account.

How do I cancel Preply and get a refund?

Cancel your subscription in your account before the next 28-day renewal. Preply may refund a charge if no lessons from that cycle were used and you ask within 28 days, through support chat. Canceling alone doesn't trigger a refund.

Is Preply good for kids?

It can be, especially for language practice with a patient tutor. Look for tutors who list experience teaching children, watch their intro video, and sit in on the trial. Younger kids may need a parent nearby during lessons.

What subjects can kids learn on Preply?

Preply is strongest for languages like English, Spanish, French and Mandarin, but it also lists tutors for math, history, writing, computer science and test prep.

Can I use an ESA for Preply?

Possibly, but it depends on the tutor. ESA programs set credential rules for tutors and often require them to register with the program's payment platform. Save Preply to your Edulist wishlist and check scholarships for your state.
