Tapestry of Grace

$249

A Christian, classical unit-study curriculum that teaches history, literature, geography, worldview, fine arts and writing to the whole family at once through a four-year chronological cycle, with four learning levels from kindergarten to 12th grade.

What is Tapestry of Grace?

Tapestry of Grace (TOG) is a Christian homeschool curriculum from Lampstand Press, which has developed it since 1998. It blends classical education with Charlotte Mason ideas like living books and narration, plus hands-on projects.

The big idea: the whole family studies the same slice of history at the same time, each child at their own level. History is the spine, and literature, geography, worldview, fine arts and writing hang from it.

How Tapestry of Grace works

Each Year-Plan has 36 weeks, split into four nine-week units. Every week lays out reading assignments, activities, discussion questions and writing for four levels. You pick the books and activities that fit your family and skip the rest.

A typical week starts with parent prep. You read the teacher notes, gather library books, and plan discussions. Younger kids hear read-alouds and do crafts or lapbooks. Older kids read on their own and join a parent-led discussion near the end of the week.

Expect real prep time. Parent reviewers report four to five hours a week, and Cathy Duffy recommends blocking out summer planning time.

What it covers

Year-PlanPeriod
Year 1Creation to the fall of Rome
Year 2Medieval era to the U.S. Constitution
Year 3The 1800s in America and Europe
Year 4The 20th century, with a strong U.S. history component

Levels overlap on purpose: Lower Grammar (about K–3), Upper Grammar (3–6), Dialectic (6–9) and Rhetoric (9–12). After four years you start again, and each child moves up a level. Rhetoric students add government and philosophy.

Not included: math, science, phonics and grammar. An optional English Grammar book covers grades 4–6.

Who Tapestry of Grace is best for

TOG fits Christian families with several children, parents who love to read and discuss, and teens ready for great books. Reviewers rate the dialectic and rhetoric levels as some of the strongest material available.

If your kids are all young, a lighter program may give similar value for less money and time. Look at Story of the World or The Mystery of History.

Pricing at a glance

As of October 2026, a full Year-Plan for all four levels costs $249, and the Whole Family Bundle with supplements costs $749. Single-level student and teacher sets run $60 to $80. Living books are extra and add up, so library access helps.

Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?

Possibly. ESA programs such as Arizona's Empowerment Scholarship Account and Florida's FES-UA often allow curriculum purchases, but each program decides. Some programs limit religious materials, so check your rules first.
