TypingClub
A free touch-typing program from EdClub with game-like lessons, stars and badges. Its main course, Typing Jungle, has 600+ lessons for grades 2–12, and Jungle Junior has about 250 playful lessons for pre-K to 1st grade.
What is TypingClub?
TypingClub is a free touch-typing website from EdClub, a Washington, DC company that also makes vocabulary, reading and digital citizenship courses. It treats typing like a game: kids replay each short lesson until they earn stars, collect badges and unlock videos and animated stories. EdClub says more than 23 million students and 50,000 schools have used it.
You don't need an account to start. A free profile saves progress, and paid plans remove ads.
How it works
Each lesson takes a minute or two. The screen shows which finger to use for each key, and a voice-over option can read each word aloud. After every lesson, your child sees speed and accuracy and a star rating. Lessons repeat until all five stars are earned.
A typical day is 5 to 15 minutes:
- Watch a short video or read the new-key tip.
- Type two or three lessons, aiming for accuracy first.
- Play a typing game or animated story as a reward.
Kids can work alone. Parents mostly check that fingers stay on the home row and that speed isn't winning over accuracy.
What it covers
| Course | Lessons | Grades |
|---|---|---|
| Jungle Junior | About 250 | Pre-K to 1 |
| Typing Jungle | 600+ | 2 to 12 |
| Typing Basics | About 100 | 3 to 12 |

There are also practice courses on topics like U.S. state facts and digital citizenship, plus layouts for Dvorak, Colemak, one-handed typing and about 20 languages.
Who it's best for
TypingClub suits kids who love levels and stars, and it is one of the few free programs with a real course for 4- to 7-year-olds. It also helps students who need an unusual keyboard layout.
Skip it, or pay for Premium, if your child is easily pulled toward ads. Kids who get upset by repeating lessons may prefer Typing.com, which uses timed tests and games with less star pressure.
Pricing at a glance
The whole curriculum is free with ads. As of October 2026, EdClub's store lists a one-year ad-free Individual Premium subscription at $35. School Edition Pro, useful for co-ops, starts at 20 licenses for $120 a year after a 60-day free trial.
Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?
Most families will use the free version. If you pay for Premium, online learning subscriptions are often allowed in education savings account programs, such as those on our Arizona ESA page and Florida scholarship page. Each program decides. Save TypingClub to your Edulist wishlist and apply once to the programs on scholarships for families.
How it compares
Typing.com is the other big free option and has the better free teacher dashboard. Dance Mat Typing is a short, story-based start for young kids, and Typesy is a paid, ad-free course. For a K–5 sequence that ties into handwriting, see Keyboarding Without Tears from Learning Without Tears. Browse all typing programs for kids or early learning programs.
