How to write a lowercase b in cursive: Begin on the baseline with an undercurve up to the top line. Loop back to the left and pull a straight, slanted line down to the baseline. Without lifting, curve back up to the midline and finish with a small tie stroke that rests on the midline.
This sheet starts with large models of capital B and lowercase b, with a green start dot, numbered strokes, and arrows that show which way the pencil travels. Then come two rows for each form: trace, then write from the start dots. Page two joins b into the words "bee" and "bus" and the sentence "Ben has a big ball", so your child practices the capital and the lowercase joins in real writing.
Cursive b is one of the loop letters (e, l, h, k, b, f), which begin with an undercurve and loop back at the top. When b feels easy, practice e, l, h, k next, or print the full cursive alphabet chart.
Tips for using it
- Kids often close the bottom of b like a print b, or drag the ending down to the baseline. The cursive b ends up high, on the midline.
- Because b ends on the midline, the next letter connects with a short bridge stroke along the midline (like the join in 'be' or 'bo'), not from the baseline.

Questions
How do you write a capital B in cursive?
Capital B starts with a short upward curve to the top line, then a slanted stem down to the baseline. Go back up for the top bump, make a small loop at the middle, then a fuller bottom bump that ends with a tiny curl. The model at the top of the sheet numbers each stroke, so your child can see where to lift the pencil.
Why does cursive b look so different?
Cursive b is one of four letters (b, o, v, w) that end high on the midline. Those high endings are the joins that most often need extra practice.
When should kids learn cursive b?
Most programs introduce cursive in 2nd or 3rd grade, once print letters are automatic. Cursive b is taught with the other loop letters (e, l, h, k, b, f), so it often comes right after the undercurve letters.
