How to write a lowercase o in cursive: Start at the midline, curve back to the left and down around to the baseline, come back up to close at the start, and finish with a small tie stroke along the midline.
This sheet starts with large models of capital O and lowercase o, with a green start dot, numbered strokes, and arrows that show which way the pencil travels. Then come two rows for each form: trace, then write from the start dots. Page two joins o into the words "owl" and "ox" and the sentence "Owls hoot at night", so your child practices the capital and the lowercase joins in real writing.
Cursive o is one of the oval letters (a, c, d, g, o, q), which begin at the midline and curve back to the left. When o feels easy, practice a, c, d, g next, or print the full cursive alphabet chart.
Tips for using it
- Dropping the ending to the baseline is the big one. The cursive o finishes high, with a tie along the midline.
- Say the strokes out loud while writing o, for example: "back around, close it, pull down". Saying it keeps the shape consistent from row to row.

Questions
How do you write a capital O in cursive?
Capital O starts at the top line, curves left and down around to the baseline, climbs the right side to the top, and finishes with a small loop inside the top. The model at the top of the sheet numbers each stroke, so your child can see where to lift the pencil.
How does cursive o connect to the next letter?
Because o ends on the midline, the next letter hangs from a bridge stroke along the midline, as in 'on', 'or' and 'ox'.
When should kids learn cursive o?
Most programs introduce cursive in 2nd or 3rd grade, once print letters are automatic. Cursive o is taught with the other oval letters (a, c, d, g, o, q), so it often comes once the undercurve and loop letters are comfortable.
