Twenty addition problems with dollars and cents, like $3.45 + $2.78, stacked with the decimal points lined up. Totals stay at $10 or less. Money is the friendliest way into decimal addition, because children already know that 100 cents make a dollar.
The rules are the same as whole-number addition: line up the places, add from the right, carry when a column makes 10 or more, and bring the decimal point straight down. For subtraction too, choose Add and subtract money above. For counting coins first, see the money worksheets.
Line up the decimal points, add each column from right to left, carry as usual, and put the decimal point in the answer directly below the others.
2nd and 3rd graders solve money problems with whole dollars and cents. Adding decimals to hundredths is a 5th grade standard, and money makes it concrete.
