This winter word scramble mixes up 14 words from a 30-word cold-weather bank: blizzard, icicle, igloo, flurries, earmuffs, mittens, snowflake, polar bear and more. It isn't tied to a holiday, so it's useful from December through the end of February, for snow days, indoor recess and the long stretch after winter break.
Each word gets letter tiles and blanks, with a word bank at the bottom. If your child gets stuck, turn on first-letter hints rather than removing words; the hint is usually enough to unlock a word, and they still do the thinking.
Tips for using it
- Keep a few copies in a snow-day folder with the winter word search and crossword.
- After solving, sort the words into weather, clothing and animals.
