Christmas reading comprehension with an original passage for each grade band. Kindergarten and 1st grade read "The Best Gift," about a homemade card for a big brother. 2nd and 3rd grade read "Reindeer in the Cold," an article on hollow fur, snowshoe hooves, lichen and why female reindeer grow antlers too. 4th and 5th grade read "The Gingerbread Disaster," a funny story about turning a collapsing gingerbread house into something better.

Each passage comes with six questions and an answer key. This version opens on the 2nd–3rd grade reindeer article. For a full holiday learning day, add Christmas writing prompts, a Christmas word search and the Christmas worksheet pack.

Tips for using it

  • After the gingerbread story, ask your child about a time a mistake turned out well.
  • Pair the reindeer article with a map of the Arctic.
  • Let younger kids make their own card after reading "The Best Gift."
