CodaKid
Online coding school for ages 6–18 with 115+ self-paced video courses in Minecraft, Roblox, Python, Unity and web development, plus live 1-on-1 private lessons with a teacher.
What is CodaKid?
CodaKid is an online coding school for kids and teens ages 6 to 18. It sells two things: a library of self-paced video courses and live 1-on-1 private lessons with a teacher. CodaKid says more than 100,000 students in 140+ countries have used it.
The big idea is that kids learn by building things they already love, like Minecraft mods and Roblox games, using the same languages and tools professionals use.
How it works
In the self-paced plan, kids watch short video lessons and build a project step by step on their own computer. When they get stuck, they can ask an AI helper trained on CodaKid's courses at any hour, or book a scheduled help session with a person.
Private lessons are 50 minutes with a live instructor. Parents get a progress report after every session, and private plans include the self-paced library for practice in between.
What it covers
| Starting age | Track | Tools and languages |
|---|---|---|
| 6–8 | Block coding | Scratch, Minecraft and Roblox blocks |
| About 9 | Minecraft and Roblox coding | Java, Lua |
| About 10 | Python | Python |
| About 12 | Game engines and web | Unity, Unreal Engine, C#, JavaScript, HTML, CSS |
CodaKid lists 115+ courses across 10 learning pathways and more than 750 videos.
Who it's best for
CodaKid is a strong fit for kids ages 9 and up who want to mod Minecraft, make Roblox games or try Unity, and for teens learning Python. The private lessons suit families who want a live teacher, much like the old Juni model.
Kids under 8, families with only a tablet, and families who want something free should start elsewhere.
Pricing at a glance
As of October 2026, self-paced access is $29 a month or $199 a year, with a 14-day free trial. Private lessons run from $149 to $450 a month depending on frequency.
Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?
CodaKid says it is an approved provider for some ESA programs, including the Arizona ESA, Utah Fits All and West Virginia's Hope Scholarship. Rules change, so confirm in your program's own marketplace. See Arizona scholarships, Utah scholarships and West Virginia scholarships. On Edulist you can save CodaKid to your wishlist and apply once.
How it compares
Tynker is better for ages 5 to 8 and covers up to 3 kids on one plan. Create & Learn offers live classes in small groups at a lower price than private lessons. CodeCombat and CodeMonkey are cheaper ways to practice typed code. Families who used Juni Learning will find CodaKid's private lessons the closest match. See all coding programs for kids.
