DreamBox Math
An adaptive K–8 online math program that teaches through interactive lessons with virtual manipulatives and adjusts to how a child solves problems. Now part of Discovery Education; family plans start at $12.95 a month.
What is DreamBox Math?
DreamBox Math is an adaptive online math program for kindergarten through grade 8. It started as DreamBox Learning and is now part of Discovery Education. Instead of quizzing kids, it teaches through short interactive lessons where children move objects, slide number lines and build fractions to solve problems.
The program watches how a child solves each problem, not just whether the answer is right, and adjusts the next step.
How it works
Your child logs in on a computer, Chromebook or iPad and picks from a set of lessons. Each lesson uses virtual manipulatives and gives hints when a child gets stuck. DreamBox moves faster or slower based on the strategies your child uses. There's no separate placement test; the program keeps adjusting.
DreamBox suggests about an hour a week, or about five lessons. Kids work on their own. Parents check the Family Dashboard for activity, proficiency and progress toward goals, and can print certificates.
What it covers
| Grades | Main topics |
|---|---|
| K | Counting, comparing, early addition |
| 1–2 | Addition and subtraction, place value, measurement, shapes, fluency |
| 3–5 | Multiplication, division, fractions, measurement, geometry |
| 6–8 | Ratios, rational numbers, equations, statistics and probability, pre-algebra |
Lessons align to each state's standards and Common Core.
Who it's best for
DreamBox fits kids who learn by doing and families who want a program that explains, not just drills. It works well as an independent supplement for homeschoolers. Look elsewhere if your family uses phones or Android tablets, or if your child wants faster, game-style practice like Prodigy.
Pricing at a glance
As of October 2026, individual plans run $12.95 a month, $59.95 for 6 months or $99.95 a year. Family plans run $19.95, $99.95 or $149.95. A 10-year non-renewing plan costs $250 for one child or $325 for a family. A free trial is available.
Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?
Many families ask whether DreamBox counts as curriculum. Some programs reimburse educational software; Florida's PEP handbook lists instructional materials, for example. Each program decides, so check the rules before you buy a long plan. Start at our scholarships hub, then your state, such as Florida or Arizona.
