Magoosh
Low-cost online test prep. Magoosh SAT costs $49 a month or $129 a year, and Magoosh ACT costs $129 for 12 months, with video lessons, thousands of practice questions, an AI tutor and a 7-day money-back guarantee.
What is Magoosh?
Magoosh is an online test prep company that has been helping students study since 2010. It started with graduate exams and now covers the SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, IELTS, MCAT and LSAT. For families, the relevant products are Magoosh SAT and Magoosh ACT.
The idea is affordable, self-paced prep built around short video lessons and an explanation for every practice question, at a fraction of the price of live courses.
How it works
Students sign up, pick a study schedule and work through video lessons and practice questions on the web or in the mobile apps. When they miss a question, they watch or read the explanation. An AI tutor helps when they get stuck, and expert tutors answer questions by email. A score predictor estimates where the student stands.
The Premium + Classes tiers add recorded, on-demand classes from a 99th-percentile instructor, with homework after each class. The SAT version runs about 18 hours across nine classes. The ACT version adds about 16 hours.
Parents don't need to do much beyond helping set a schedule.

Students who need a live teacher should look at Princeton Review or Kaplan. If you want a more structured adaptive plan and a bigger guarantee, compare PrepScholar.
Pricing at a glance
At regular prices, SAT Premium is $49 a month or $129 a year, and adding on-demand classes brings it to $149 a month or $399 a year. ACT Premium is $129, or $399 with classes, each for 12 months. Magoosh runs frequent sales, and every plan has a 7-day money-back guarantee.
Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?
Possibly. Some education savings account programs, such as the Arizona ESA, allow test prep as an expense, but each program decides which vendors and costs qualify. See scholarships by state.
