MathShed
A math fact fluency game from EdShed, the makers of Spelling Shed, that drills number bonds, times tables, related facts and powers of ten, with a free tier and a paid premium tier for schools and families.
What is MathShed?
MathShed is a math fact fluency game made by EdShed, the company behind Spelling Shed, Phonics Shed and Literacy Shed. In the US it is run by Education Shed Inc. It was designed by a team of teachers to help kids build speed and accuracy with math facts, and it won a Bett Award in 2025.
MathShed is narrow on purpose. It does one job, fast recall of facts, and leaves concept teaching to your main curriculum.
How it works
Kids play short games in a web browser at play.edshed.com. Content includes:
- Number bonds, such as pairs that make 10 or 100
- Multiplication tables
- Related facts, such as division facts linked to multiplication
- Powers of ten
A parent or teacher can set assignments and challenges, then check a competence grid to see which facts a child has mastered. Leagues add some friendly competition.
For families, setup takes a few steps. You register at EdShed, enter your home address as the organization address, choose a free or paid subscription, and add up to 5 children. Then you give each child a licence and pick the facts to practice. A few minutes a day is enough for fact practice.
What it covers
| Skill area | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Number bonds | Early addition and subtraction fluency |
| Times tables | Multiplication recall |
| Related facts | Linking multiplication and division |
| Powers of ten | Place value and mental math with 10, 100, 1,000 |
MathShed does not publish a grade range. Its content matches elementary fact fluency goals.
Who it's best for
MathShed suits kids who understand the operations but still count on fingers or freeze on timed tests. It is especially handy if your family already uses Spelling Shed, since both live in one account.
Look elsewhere if your child needs a full program that teaches new ideas, or if they have not yet learned what multiplication means. A conceptual program from our elementary math list is the right first step.
Pricing at a glance
MathShed has a free tier. As of October 2026, EdShed does not publish a US home price for Premium on its public pages; you see it when you choose a paid plan during sign-up. Adding another EdShed product for the same student gets 20% off.
Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?
Many families will not need funding, since the free tier is useful on its own. Some education savings account programs allow educational software subscriptions, but each program decides. If you are building a full math plan with scholarship help, save MathShed and a core curriculum to your wishlist, then check scholarships in your state.
How it compares
XtraMath is a free, no-frills fact practice tool. Reflex Math is a more adaptive fact fluency game. Prodigy wraps broader math practice in a fantasy game, and Mathletics adds full curriculum-aligned practice and worksheets. See all math programs.
