Matific
A game-based math app with thousands of short, hands-on activities that build conceptual understanding, with an adaptive learning path for kindergarten through elementary grades and newer content for older kids.
What is Matific?
Matific is a math app made by Slate Science. It is built around short, interactive activities that let kids move, sort, split and build things to see how math works. Matific says it has thousands of activities, is used in more than 70 countries and runs in more than 50 languages.
The big idea is conceptual understanding through play. Instead of only racing through flash cards, a child might cut a pizza into equal parts to see a fraction.
How it works
Children play in three modes:
- Adventure: an adaptive path that picks the next activity based on how your child is doing.
- Training Zone: focused practice on a chosen skill.
- Multiplayer Arena: friendly head-to-head play.
Parents get a dashboard and reports and can assign activities to target weak spots. Kids can play on the web, on iOS and Android, or through the Microsoft Store, and the app works offline. There are no ads.
Most kids can play on their own. A typical session is 10 to 15 minutes. Matific cites about 30 minutes a week for its results.
What it covers
| Grade band | Typical topics |
|---|---|
| Kindergarten | Counting, comparing, shapes, early addition |
| Grades 1–2 | Place value, addition and subtraction strategies, measurement, time |
| Grades 3–4 | Multiplication, division, fractions, area and perimeter |
| Grades 5–6 | Decimals, fraction operations, ratios, geometry, data |
Matific also includes financial literacy activities. Its core program is K–6, and the US site now lists grade pages up to grade 9.
Who it's best for
Matific suits young learners who get bored by worksheets and do better with hands-on puzzles. It is a good fit for families who want a calm, ad-free app that builds understanding rather than only speed.
Look elsewhere if you need a full curriculum with lessons, or if you have several kids and need one family price. Matific bills per child.
Pricing at a glance
Matific offers yearly and monthly plans for each child, after a 7-day free trial that requires payment details. As of October 2026, the US App Store lists one year at $78.99. The website shows prices at checkout. Matific's terms say subscriptions renew automatically and are not refunded, so cancel before renewal if you are unsure.
Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?
It may. Some education savings account programs allow educational software and online learning, but each program writes its own rules. Read what ESA funds can buy, then check your state, for example Arizona or Texas. Save Matific to your wishlist and apply once on Edulist to the programs that fit your family.
How it compares
Mathletics is the closest rival, with more timed practice and printable worksheets. SplashLearn covers a similar age range with a free tier. DreamBox goes deeper on adaptive lessons. For preschool through 2nd grade, Todo Math is another strong pick. See more math apps and elementary math programs.
