What is Notgrass History?

Notgrass History is a family-run homeschool publisher that makes Christian history, geography and civics courses for grades 1 to 12. Each course is a complete, stand-alone year. Lessons combine engaging narrative, full-color photos and illustrations, primary source documents, literature and hands-on activities.

Notgrass describes its courses as rigorous and flexible, written from a Christ-centered perspective, and easy to teach without a separate teacher's manual.

How it works

A typical day is one lesson:

  • Elementary: A parent reads the lesson aloud for about 20 minutes, then the child does a short activity such as a map, a workbook page or a craft.
  • Middle school: Students read a lesson with photos and primary sources, then complete review questions, a timeline entry or a project.
  • High school: Students work largely on their own for 60 to 90 minutes, reading the text, primary sources and assigned literature, and writing.

Weeks are usually five lessons, often ending with a review or a hands-on project. You can teach several children together in the same grade band.
