BJU Press Homeschool
Christian textbook curriculum for K3 through 12th grade from BJU Press, available as parent-led textbook kits or video courses streamed through the Homeschool Hub or on DVD. An optional accredited record-keeping service is offered through The Academy of Home Education.
What is BJU Press Homeschool?
BJU Press Homeschool sells the Christian textbook programs from BJU Press, the publisher tied to Bob Jones University. The same books are used in many Christian schools. Homeschool families can teach from the books themselves or add video courses where a recorded teacher leads each lesson.
How it works
You choose a format for each grade or subject:
- Textbook kits. You teach from a teacher's edition that walks you through questions, activities and explanations.
- Online video. Lessons stream through the Homeschool Hub, which also gives you a calendar, gradebook and transcripts.
- DVD video. The same lessons on discs, leased for the access period and then returned.
Video access lasts 16 or 20 months, depending on when you order. In video courses, tests and quizzes are graded automatically from grade 5 up. BJU estimates about 2 hours of video a day in K5, 2.5 to 3 hours in grades 1–6, and 3 to 3.5 hours in grades 7–12.
What it covers
| Stage | Courses |
|---|---|
| K3–K5 | Early reading, phonics, numbers and readiness |
| Grades 1–6 | Phonics and English, reading, handwriting, math, spelling, heritage studies, science, Bible |
| Grades 7–8 | English, literature, math, science, history, Bible, electives |
| Grades 9–12 | Full high school sequence including electives and world languages |
A Grade 1 online kit, for example, schedules 180 days of phonics and English, reading, handwriting, math and spelling, plus 90 days each of heritage studies and science.
Who it's best for
BJU Press suits families who want a complete Christian homeschool curriculum with a teacher on screen and a parent in the coaching role. Parents often say their children become more independent by grade 3 or 4.
It is less suited to tight budgets, to families who want to limit screens, or to anyone looking for secular science. Each child needs a separate license, which adds up for families with twins or several children in one grade.
Pricing at a glance
As of October 2026, Grade 1 costs $1,149 online with books, $979 online only, and $1,209 on DVD with books. A complete Grade 1 textbook kit without video is about $1,073. BJU offers $50 off each of two or more video grade kits with books.
Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?
Often. Programs such as Arizona ESA and Florida scholarships commonly allow curriculum. Some treat streaming licenses differently from books, and some buy only through a marketplace, so check your program's rules first. Save BJU Press to your wishlist and apply once through Edulist scholarships.
How it compares
Abeka is the closest rival, with a similar Christian school feel and a built-in accredited diploma; see Abeka vs BJU Press. Monarch is cheaper and fully online for grades 3–12 but is mostly text. Alpha Omega LIFEPAC offers self-paced worktexts. Compare more all-in-one homeschool curriculum or see the best homeschool curriculum.

BJU Press Homeschool FAQs
Is BJU Press Homeschool accredited?
BJU Press is a curriculum publisher, so the curriculum itself is not accredited. Accreditation is available through BJU's The Academy of Home Education, which partners with Bridgeway Academy and Cognia. Students must meet testing requirements and use BJU materials where available, and there are application and yearly fees.
Is BJU Press the same as Bob Jones University curriculum?
Yes. BJU Press is the publishing arm associated with Bob Jones University. Its homeschool site sells the same textbook programs used in many Christian schools, plus homeschool video courses.
What is the BJU Press Homeschool Hub?
The Homeschool Hub replaced BJU's older Distance Learning Online platform. It streams video lessons and gives parents a dashboard, calendar and gradebook that can produce transcripts. BJU says its online video courses are not an online school; parents remain the teacher of record.
How long do BJU video courses last?
Courses ordered February 1 through May 31 get 20 months of access, and courses ordered on or after June 1 get 16 months. BJU's agreement says online access cannot be extended or reused, so plan your start date.
Is there a BJU Press promo code?
BJU Press publishes standing multi-kit discounts instead of public coupon codes: $50 off each of 2 or more video grade kits with books, and 20% off 3 or more video subject kits with books. Check the official site for any seasonal offers.
Can I return BJU Press materials?
Yes, within limits. Unused items returned within 30 days get a full refund minus expedited shipping, a 10% fee applies after 30 days, and nothing is accepted after 90 days. eTextbooks are not returnable.
Can an ESA pay for BJU Press?
Often, when the program allows curriculum. Some programs buy only through a marketplace and may treat streaming licenses differently from books, so confirm before ordering.
