This report card template uses standards-based marks from 4 (exceeds the standard) to 1 (beginning; needs support), the format many elementary schools now use instead of letter grades. It has three trimester columns and a final column for nine subjects, a work habits section, an attendance table, a comments box and a signature line.

It works for a homeschool, a co-op class, a tutoring center or a small classroom. Change the subjects, switch to letter grades or percentages, or choose quarters or semesters. Type names and marks before printing for a finished report card, or print it blank.

Tips for using it

  • With standards-based marks, a 3 means the child is where they should be. Explain that to kids so a 3 doesn't feel like a C.
  • Use the dash for any subject you didn't teach that trimester rather than leaving it blank.

Questions

What is a standards-based report card?

It reports how well a child meets specific grade-level skills rather than averaging points into a letter. Marks usually run from 1 to 4, with 3 meaning the standard is met.

Can I use letter grades instead?

Yes. Switch Marks to Letter or Percent, and the key at the bottom changes to match.
