Third grade is when cursive moves from letters to real writing in many schools. This sheet practices high-frequency words that third graders use in nearly every paragraph (our, your, from, when) and a short sentence with a capital. They also cover tricky joins: o to u and r, f to r, w to h. Each line gets trace, start-dot, copy and write rows on medium lines.
Replace the words with this week's spelling list for double-duty practice. If single letters are still shaky, use the cursive alphabet and the single-letter pages first; for longer writing, move to cursive sentences.
Tips for using it
- The o in our and your ends on the midline, so the next letter hangs from a bridge. Practice the pair 'ou' on its own.
- Small lines fit 3rd graders who already write cursive comfortably; switch Line size to Small.

Is cursive taught in 3rd grade?
In many US schools, yes, and some start in 2nd grade. California, for example, requires cursive or joined italics to be taught in grades 1 to 6, with schools choosing the grade. Requirements vary by state and district.
Should 3rd graders still practice print?
Print is still used for forms, labels and math, so keep it legible. Most handwriting time in 3rd grade goes to cursive.
