How to write a lowercase g in cursive: Start at the midline and make an oval like an a. Pull a straight line down below the baseline, loop to the left at the bottom, and swing back up to cross the stem at the baseline. Exit up to the right.
This sheet starts with large models of capital G and lowercase g, with a green start dot, numbered strokes, and arrows that show which way the pencil travels. Then come two rows for each form: trace, then write from the start dots. Page two joins g into the words "goat" and "gift" and the sentence "Gus got a green gift", so your child practices the capital and the lowercase joins in real writing.
Cursive g is one of the oval letters (a, c, d, g, o, q), which begin at the midline and curve back to the left. When g feels easy, practice a, c, d, o next, or print the full cursive alphabet chart.
Tips for using it
- Watch for an open oval (it reads like a y) and for a lower loop that turns right instead of left. The g loop always turns to the left.
- Say the strokes out loud while writing g, for example: "back around, close it, pull down". Saying it keeps the shape consistent from row to row.

Questions
How do you write a capital G in cursive?
Capital G starts on the baseline with a long upstroke to the top line, loops over and comes down to a small loop at the middle, then curves around the bottom and finishes with an exit stroke. The model at the top of the sheet numbers each stroke, so your child can see where to lift the pencil.
How does cursive g connect to the next letter?
The bottom loop crosses at the baseline and becomes the exit stroke, so g joins the next letter from the baseline.
When should kids learn cursive g?
Most programs introduce cursive in 2nd or 3rd grade, once print letters are automatic. Cursive g is taught with the other oval letters (a, c, d, g, o, q), so it often comes once the undercurve and loop letters are comfortable.
