How to write a lowercase k in cursive: Undercurve up to the top line, loop to the left, and pull straight down to the baseline. Go back up to the midline and make a small loop, like a tiny backward c, then kick the leg down and out to the baseline and exit.
This sheet starts with large models of capital K and lowercase k, with a green start dot, numbered strokes, and arrows that show which way the pencil travels. Then come two rows for each form: trace, then write from the start dots. Page two joins k into the words "kite" and "kid" and the sentence "Kim flies a kite", so your child practices the capital and the lowercase joins in real writing.
Cursive k is one of the loop letters (e, l, h, k, b, f), which begin with an undercurve and loop back at the top. When k feels easy, practice e, l, h, b next, or print the full cursive alphabet chart.
Tips for using it
- Children often make the small loop as tall as the top loop, which turns k into an h. Keep the small loop at the midline.
- Say the strokes out loud while writing k, for example: "scoop up, loop back, pull down". Saying it keeps the shape consistent from row to row.

Questions
How do you write a capital K in cursive?
Capital K takes two strokes: a small cap curve and the stem down, then a second stroke from the top right that curves in to touch the stem at the middle and kicks out to the baseline. The model at the top of the sheet numbers each stroke, so your child can see where to lift the pencil.
How does cursive k connect to the next letter?
The leg finishes on the baseline, so k joins the next letter from the bottom.
When should kids learn cursive k?
Most programs introduce cursive in 2nd or 3rd grade, once print letters are automatic. Cursive k is taught with the other loop letters (e, l, h, k, b, f), so it often comes right after the undercurve letters.
