Tracing worksheets help young children learn the path each letter or number takes, before they write on their own. This sheet mixes the three things preschoolers and kindergarteners trace most: letter pairs (Aa Bb Cc), numbers (1 2 3) and short words (cat, sun). Each line gets four rows of dotted tracing, every copy marked with a green start dot.
Everything is editable. Type letters, numbers or words on separate lines; choose dotted, dashed or light gray tracing; and pick a line size. Print supports letters, numbers and basic punctuation. For ready-made sets, see alphabet tracing, number tracing and name tracing.
Tips for using it
- Dotted lines are easiest to follow; light gray works well once a child traces steadily.
- Ask for slow tracing that stays on the dots, not speed.

Do tracing worksheets actually help handwriting?
Tracing teaches where to start and which way to go, and it builds pencil control. It works best paired with writing from a model, so children don't depend on the dots. That is why the other presets add start-dot and copy rows.
What should a 3-year-old trace?
Lines, zigzags and circles first, then big capital letters made of straight lines (L, T, H). Keep sessions to a few minutes.
