This weather crossword turns a weather unit's vocabulary into clues: "A tool that measures air pressure" (barometer), "Puffy white clouds that look like cotton" (cumulus), "A huge spinning storm that forms over warm ocean water" (hurricane), "A scientist who studies and forecasts weather" (meteorologist). Each puzzle picks 12 of 30 words.

Use it to review after kids have tracked the weather for a week or built a rain gauge. Clues about tools and cloud types are the ones kids tend to miss, so talk through those first. With the word bank it fits grades 2 to 4; without, grades 4 to 6.

Tips for using it

  • Check today's forecast together and find which answers describe it.
  • Sketch the cloud types you see outside and label any that match the puzzle.
