Global Village School
A WASC-accredited, secular and progressive K–12 distance-learning school based in Southern California. Families homeschool with Global Village's social justice and sustainability curriculum guides while an assigned teacher mentors them, keeps official records and, in high school, works toward an accredited diploma.
What is Global Village School?
Global Village School (GVS) is an accredited distance-learning school based in Southern California. It has supported homeschooling families around the world since 1999, and it's run by a nonprofit. GVS calls itself a homeschool-private school hybrid: you homeschool, but your child is enrolled in a WASC-accredited private school that keeps official records.
Its values are front and center. The curriculum is secular and progressive, with a strong focus on social justice, diversity, peace and sustainability.
How it works
K–8. Each child gets one GVS teacher for the year. Tuition includes a Whole Child, Healthy Planet curriculum guide, which gives structure and ideas but doesn't tell you exactly what to do each day. Families pick books and materials from the guide's recommendations, teach at home and submit work monthly. Teachers meet families about once a month by phone or video, and write narrative evaluations instead of letter grades.
High school (Soar). Teens set goals, choose from GVS course guides or design their own, and can earn credit for mentorships, outside classes and real-world projects. They meet one-on-one with their GVS teacher twice a month and join monthly live seminars. Parents act as home teachers and help with documentation.
Enrollment is year-round and rolling, and students can work at their own pace.
What it covers

Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?
Possibly. As an accredited private school, GVS tuition may be an allowable expense in ESA or scholarship programs, and its curriculum guides may count as curriculum purchases. Each program decides. Check your state on our scholarships hub, for example Arizona or Florida. You can save GVS to your wishlist and apply once on Edulist.
