Guidepost Montessori

$2,010/mo

A national chain of private Montessori schools for children from 6 weeks to about 6 years old, with Nido (infant), Toddler and Children's House programs and elementary at a few campuses. Tuition is set by campus and billed monthly, commonly about $1,400 to $3,000 a month for full-time care.

What is Guidepost Montessori?

Guidepost Montessori is a chain of private Montessori schools for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Its programs are Nido for infants from 6 weeks, Toddler, and Children's House for ages 3 to 6, with elementary classes at a few campuses. Classrooms use Montessori materials, mixed ages and long work periods, led by adults Guidepost calls guides.

The brand has changed hands. It was built by Higher Ground Education, which grew to about 150 schools before filing for bankruptcy in June 2025 and closing about 60 of them. Most remaining schools moved to a new company, Guidepost Global Education, whose website has described 84 U.S. campuses in 14 states plus schools in Asia. In September 2026, 18 former Guidepost schools in Texas, Virginia and Massachusetts became Illuminate Montessori under a separate operator.

How it works

Most campuses are open year-round on weekdays, often from about 7 AM to 6 PM, with half-day, school-day and full-day options. Children spend the morning in an uninterrupted Montessori work cycle, choosing hands-on work like pouring, sorting, early letters and counting materials. Afternoons add outdoor play, rest for younger children, and enrichment such as art or language immersion at some campuses.

Parents don't teach. Your main jobs are choosing the right campus, staying in touch with the guide, and carrying routines like independent dressing and cleanup into home life.

Who it's best for

Guidepost fits working parents who want full-day, year-round care with a real educational program, and families drawn to Montessori independence. It is a weaker fit if you need one school through middle school, if you want a small independent Montessori school with a long track record, or if you can't absorb a lost deposit should a campus change. Read the Guidepost Montessori reviews summary before you tour.

Guidepost Montessori tuition at a glance

Tuition is monthly and set by campus. Guidepost's 2026–27 rate sheet for Wicker Park in Chicago runs $2,010 to $2,960 a month for Toddler and $2,205 to $2,755 for Children's House, and former Guidepost campuses in Texas and Virginia listed about $1,200 to $2,100. Budget for a registration fee, a deposit and possibly a materials fee. Details are on the Guidepost Montessori pricing page.

Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?

Sometimes, for preschool-age children. Texas's official TEFA finder lists 11 Texas campuses under the Guidepost name for grades PreK–K as of October 2026, several of which now operate as Illuminate Montessori. Most state programs don't cover infant or toddler care, and Guidepost doesn't publish which other programs it accepts. See Texas Education Freedom Accounts, Arizona ESA and Florida scholarships, ask the campus, and save Guidepost to your wishlist while you compare.

How it compares

Montessorium is a single Montessori elementary classroom in Cedar Park, Texas, for families who want to keep going after preschool. Primer and Acton Academy are small private schools for school-age kids, a natural next step after a Montessori preschool. For older children who want mastery-based learning, Khan Lab School starts at transitional kindergarten in Palo Alto.

How much does Guidepost Montessori cost?

Guidepost does not publish one national price. Each campus has its own rate sheet by program, days per week and hours. For example, Guidepost's 2026–27 rate sheet for Wicker Park in Chicago lists Toddler at $2,010–$2,515 a month for 3 days and $2,370–$2,960 for 5 days, and Children's House (5 days) at $2,205–$2,755, depending on half, academic or full day. Former Guidepost campuses now run as Illuminate Montessori listed $1,400–$2,100 (Brushy Creek, Texas) and $1,195–$2,095 (Montclair, Virginia) a month. Infant (Nido) care is usually the most expensive. Early-childhood programs bill every month of the year, and Guidepost's parent handbook says elementary tuition is split into 10 payments.

Both, in practice. It runs licensed early-childhood programs with long, year-round hours, using a Montessori curriculum and trained guides rather than a play-only daycare model.
