What is Montessorium?

Montessorium is a Montessori elementary classroom for kindergarten through 6th grade in Cedar Park, Texas, northwest of Austin. Its tagline is "Montessori, all grown up." The classroom has the shelves of hands-on Montessori materials you would expect, run by Montessori-trained guides, plus one new shelf: laptops with the Timeback learning platform, the adaptive software behind Alpha School's 2 Hour Learning model.

The founding team includes Montessori elementary teachers, Matt Bateman, who helped launch Guidepost Montessori, and Alpha co-founder MacKenzie Price. The classroom sits inside the Guidepost Montessori Brushy Creek campus.

How it works

The day starts at 8:30 with a student-led morning meeting. From 9 to noon is a classic Montessori three-hour work period. Students move between small-group lessons with guides, independent work with materials, and practice on Timeback, which updates each child's lesson plan daily so they work at their own level.

After lunch and recess, the afternoon work period runs until 3:30. Students finish their daily work, including any remaining Timeback lessons, and join literature circles, history lessons and science labs. Extended care with play and clubs runs until 5.

What it covers

AreaWhat students do

Montessorium says students score in the top 1 to 2% nationally on NWEA MAP Growth and grow at least twice as fast as typical students. Those are the school's own claims.

Who it's best for

It fits independent kids who like choosing their work, and parents who love Montessori but want clear evidence of academic progress. It may also suit families drawn to Alpha's results who want more hands-on, social learning.
