Learner Tutoring
Online one-on-one tutoring for 2nd grade through adult learners in math, reading, writing, science, Spanish and SAT/ACT prep. Learner picks the tutor for you and sells monthly plans from $219 for 2 hours to $1,759 for 30 hours.
What is Learner Tutoring?
Learner is an online tutoring company that pairs students with one-on-one tutors in a virtual classroom. Tutors need a bachelor's degree and several years of teaching experience, and Learner says only 5% of applicants make it into its network. It serves students from 2nd grade through adulthood, with its deepest bench in math.
The core idea is managed matching. You don't scroll through tutor profiles. Learner's team learns about your child, then picks the tutor.
How it works
- Short assessment and call. A one-minute online questionnaire, then a five-minute call.
- Trial session. Learner schedules a first session, which costs $25, usually within 72 hours.
- Choose a monthly plan. Plans run from 2 to 30 hours a month.
- Weekly sessions. Sessions take place in Learner's online classroom with a shared whiteboard. Each one is recorded so your child can rewatch before a test.
If the tutor isn't a good fit, a matching specialist reassigns someone new. Parents mostly handle scheduling and check in on progress.
What it covers
| Area | Examples |
|---|---|
| Math | Elementary math, Algebra 1 and 2, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus, AP Calculus, statistics, IB math |
| English | Reading and writing |
| Science | Chemistry, physics, biology |
| Languages | Spanish |
| Test prep | SAT (full, math, English) and ACT (full, math) |
Who it's best for
Learner suits middle and high schoolers who need steady help in math, or a teen who wants one tutor for the SAT or ACT. It also suits parents who want a tutor chosen for them and a predictable monthly bill.
It's a weaker fit for children under 2nd grade, for families who want in-person sessions and for students who only need help a few times a semester, since unused hours expire. For a center-based option, see Sylvan Learning. For pay-as-you-go tutors you choose yourself, see Wyzant.
Pricing at a glance
Learner publishes its plans. As of October 2026 they run from Silver at $219 a month for 2 hours to Sapphire at $1,759 a month for 30 hours, about $59 to $110 an hour. Mid-tier plans from Gold to Medallion add unlimited group classes and homework help. There's no enrollment fee, but hours don't roll over.
Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?
Possibly. Learner says it accepts funds from the Arizona ESA, Arkansas EFA, North Carolina ESA+ and Texas TEFA through ClassWallet. Check that Learner appears in your program's own marketplace, because each program sets its own rules. Learner also offers a small annual scholarship for military-connected families.
On Edulist you can save Learner to your wishlist and apply once to scholarship programs in your state. Each program decides what it funds.
