What is Veritas Scholars Academy?

Veritas Scholars Academy (VSA) is the online school run by Veritas Press, the classical Christian publisher in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It opened in 2006 and says it was the first K–12 classical Christian online school. VSA has been accredited by the Middle States Association since 2014, and it reports more than 200 teachers and 10,000 students served.

VSA is the school side of Veritas. The publisher side, with parent-taught kits and video courses, has its own listing at Veritas Press.

How it works

Live classes meet twice a week, on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday, with morning, afternoon and evening sections. Students are on camera, speak in class and are graded on participation. Between classes they follow a Course Assignment Sheet, a detailed weekly syllabus. Missed classes can be watched as recordings, with a form for participation credit.

Parents stay out of class but proctor tests at home, watch deadlines and manage the schedule. VSA says plainly that it isn't "set it and forget it."

You can enroll two ways:

  • Individual classes. No minimum. Students get report cards, not official transcripts.
  • Diploma Program. Full-time enrollment with advising, community, transcripts and an accredited diploma. Secondary students take about six courses a year in any mix of live, self-paced and You Teach formats.

What it covers

StageGradesHighlights
GrammarK–6Live grammar courses, history, Bible, Latin

Rhetoric10–12Upper Omnibus, rhetoric, upper math and science, dual enrollment

Who it's best for

VSA fits Christian families who want a full classical path taught by teachers, especially for Omnibus and Latin in the teen years. It is a weaker fit for secular families, tight budgets or families who may need to withdraw mid-year.

Pricing at a glance

For 2026–27, live secondary courses cost $829 each, except science and some senior courses, and live grammar courses $729. Each seat needs a $95 non-refundable deposit. Diploma students also pay an annual fee of $449 to $729. Self-Paced courses run $199 to $349. A $25 paid-in-full discount and a monthly plan are available for enrollments from December to mid-August.

Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?

Possibly. Veritas's school-choice page says its online academy and live classes can count as eligible expenses in several ESA states, including the Arizona Empowerment Scholarship Account, Arkansas Education Freedom Accounts, Utah Fits All, the West Virginia Hope Scholarship and South Carolina's program. That is the school's summary, and rules change. Each program decides.
