A black-and-white world map printed landscape, with the name of every country large enough to write a label in. The map uses the Equal Earth projection, so countries keep their true sizes relative to each other: Africa looks as big as it really is, and Greenland is not stretched the way it is on a classroom Mercator map.
Small countries, such as the microstates of Europe and the island nations of the Caribbean and the Pacific, are named on the region sheets instead: the labeled map of Europe and the blank map of Africa answer key. To practice on screen, try the world map quiz.
Tips for using it
- Color each continent a different color first, then find five countries on each.
- Keep the labeled map beside the [blank world map printable](/printables/maps/blank-world-map-printable) and copy names across until you can do it from memory.

Questions
Why aren't all 197 countries labeled?
Dozens of countries are too small to label legibly on one page at world scale. They are drawn, and every one is named on the regional maps of Europe, Africa, Asia and South America.
Which map projection is this?
Equal Earth, an equal-area projection published in 2018. It shows each country at its correct relative size, which makes it a better teaching map than Mercator for comparing countries.
