Brightmont Academy
A Cognia-accredited private school for grades 1–12 where every session is one teacher with one student. Brightmont has about 28 campuses in 11 states plus online classes. For 2026–27, full-time tuition is about $26,000 to $37,000 a year depending on state and grade level.
What is Brightmont Academy?
Brightmont Academy is a private school built entirely on one-to-one instruction: one teacher and one student in every session. It was founded in 1999, is headquartered in Barrington, Illinois, and lists about 28 campuses in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Virginia and Washington, plus online programs.
Families use it two ways. Some enroll full time for an accredited diploma. Others come for a single course, credit recovery, tutoring or a targeted program in reading, math, writing or executive function.
How it works
Each student gets a customized plan and a schedule of one-to-one sessions with qualified teachers, who use digital and textbook curricula. Because instruction is individual, students can start any week of the year, including summer, and earn semester, trimester or partial credits.
Full-time high school students also get Homework Studio, a supervised study lab with a teacher on call, so assignments get done at school. Annual programs can be finished over 12 months, which lets a student pause for medical or mental health treatment and pick back up without losing tuition.
Parents aren't the teacher. Expect regular check-ins with the campus director, especially at the start.

Who it's best for
Brightmont fits students who need to step out of a crowded classroom for a while: kids with anxiety or school refusal, ADHD, dyslexia or autism, gifted and twice-exceptional students, and athletes or performers with irregular schedules. It also helps students who just need one course on their transcript. It's a poor fit for kids who want a lively peer group, sports and clubs, or for families looking for a low-cost option.
Parent reviews on Niche are mostly glowing about teachers and progress, with cost and limited student activities as the usual drawbacks.
Pricing at a glance
Brightmont posts flat annual tuition by state, which makes budgeting easier than per-class pricing. Full-time high school runs $31,350 to $35,640 for 2026–27, plus a one-time $500 enrollment fee. Online programs are listed lower, $24,500 to $29,370, but at 2025–26 rates. Tutoring starts at $830 for 10 sessions.
Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?
In several states, yes, at least in part. Brightmont says it is an approved provider for North Carolina's ESA+, accepts Florida's FES-EO and FES-UA through Step Up For Students (see Florida scholarships), and that Arizona ESA funds can pay for full-time school, a course or tutoring. Its Georgia page points to the Special Needs Scholarship and Georgia Promise Scholarship. Each program decides. Save Brightmont to your wishlist as you compare.
How it compares
Fusion Academy is the larger one-to-one school, with 80+ campuses and per-class pricing that usually costs more. For far less money, accredited online schools such as Laurel Springs and Bridgeway Academy offer flexibility without daily one-to-one teaching. If your child mostly needs structure and company while doing online coursework, a KaiPod Learning pod is another option.
