Texas Sports Academy

$10,400/yr

Alpha School's sports school for Texas student-athletes: about two hours of mastery-based academics on the Timeback platform each morning, then sport training and life-skills workshops in the afternoon. It runs sport-specific campuses across Texas and a statewide online program, Texas Sports Academy Online, for grades 3–12.

What is Texas Sports Academy?

Texas Sports Academy is the sports school of Alpha School, the Austin private school network known for its 2 Hour Learning model. Students finish core academics in about two hours each morning on Alpha's Timeback platform, then spend the afternoon training in their sport and in life-skills workshops. The school says it shares Alpha's leadership and academic program.

It runs two kinds of programs. In-person campuses are each built around a sport, such as baseball, basketball, gymnastics, girls volleyball or flag football. Texas Sports Academy Online, launched statewide in February 2026, lets students do academics from home and train with local coaches, gyms and club teams.

How it works

Mornings are for academics. Students work through adaptive, mastery-based apps in math, reading, writing and science and move on only after showing mastery. Adults on campus are guides and coaches rather than lecturing teachers.

Afternoons are for athletic development. On campus that means coached practice in the campus sport plus workshops on leadership and similar skills. Online students train in person with local partners across more than 30 sports, focused on strength, agility and speed, and join virtual life-skills sessions led by former athletes and coaches.

As of October 2026, the school lists sites in the Lake Travis area, Carrollton, Frisco, Plano, Houston, Fort Worth and San Antonio. Some are open and some are opening later, so check the specific location.

Who it's best for

It fits kids whose sport already shapes their week and who can stay focused on apps without a teacher at the front of the room. It suits families who want training built into the school day instead of squeezed in after it.

Look elsewhere if your child needs a lot of teacher support, if you want limits on screen time, or if you are buying a recruiting promise. A school can build a better training environment, but it cannot guarantee a Division I offer. Ask how transcripts, accreditation and NCAA course approval work before you enroll.

Texas Sports Academy tuition at a glance

Texas Sports Academy Online costs $10,400 a year at the self-pay rate. In-person tuition is not posted on the school's website. News reports put the newer campuses at $15,000 a year and the original campus at $25,000. The school says tuition covers training and workshops and that most students get some aid. See the Texas Sports Academy pricing page for details.

Can a scholarship or ESA pay for it?

The school says Texas Sports Academy Online is a virtual private school, so families with a Texas Education Freedom Account private school award of $10,474 for 2026–27 can apply it to tuition. It also says it is not affiliated with the program and that funding needs separate state approval. Read our guide to Texas Education Freedom Accounts and the Texas scholarships page for how awards and the lottery work. Each program decides. Save Texas Sports Academy to your wishlist to keep it alongside other options.

How it compares

Alpha School runs the same academics on general campuses at much higher tuition. GT School applies the model to gifted K–8 students in Georgetown, and Alpha Anywhere offers the academics at home without the sports program. For other small, project-heavy schools, compare Acton Academy, Primer and Prenda.
