A blank moon phase wheel with an empty box beside each of the eight moon pictures and a word bank underneath. Children write new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, third quarter and waning crescent in the right boxes. The diagram in the middle, with sunlight from the left, is a built-in hint, and the answer key on page two shows every label in red.
Practice first with the label quiz and the "Order it" quiz in the interactive moon phases explorer. For a harder version with no word bank, print label the moon phases.
Tips for using it
- Remind children that waxing means growing and waning means shrinking.
- Start at new moon, on the Sun's side, and go counterclockwise.
