These 2nd grade sight word worksheets put words in context. A word bank at the top lists the words for the page, and each short sentence has one blank: "I am wet ___ it rained." Your child picks the word that makes sense and writes it in. That checks reading, meaning and spelling at once.

Sentences are written for each word in the Dolch lists and Fry's first 300, so every word in this 88-word 2nd grade list has its own sentence. The page holds ten sentences; change Word group for the next set. The answer key fills in every blank.

Tips for using it

  • Have your child read the finished sentence aloud to check it makes sense.
  • Cross words off the word bank as they're used.

Questions

What are sight word sentences?

Short sentences built around one sight word, so kids practice the word in real reading instead of in isolation.

What if a word has no ready-made sentence?

Custom words without a sentence get a line asking your child to write their own sentence with the word.
