A plant in sunlight with an empty box at every input and output of photosynthesis and a word bank of eight terms. Children label the sunlight, chlorophyll in the leaves, carbon dioxide going in, water coming up from the roots, the stomata, oxygen going out and glucose moving to the rest of the plant. Each flow has its own arrow style, so the diagram still reads in black and white. The answer key is on page two.
Explore the same diagram first in the interactive photosynthesis explorer, which zooms from the whole plant into a leaf and a chloroplast. Then try the leaf cross-section diagram.
Tips for using it
- Sort the labels into two lists before writing - what goes in (light, carbon dioxide, water) and what comes out (glucose, oxygen).
- Have older students write the balanced equation under the diagram.
