This blank fraction chart has the same bars as the labeled fraction wall, from one whole down to twelfths, but every part is empty. Kids label each part themselves (1/2, 1/3, 1/4 …), which makes them count the parts in each row and connect the number of parts to the denominator.

It prints in black and white so children can color each row too. After labeling, ask comparison questions: which is bigger, 1/6 or 1/8? Which fractions line up with 3/4? The answer key is the labeled chart.

Tips for using it

  • Color each row a different color, then cut the strips apart.
  • Ask your child to shade 2/3 on the thirds row and find a matching amount on the sixths row.

Questions

What should kids write in a blank fraction chart?

A unit fraction in each part: 1/2 in each half, 1/3 in each third, and so on. Older kids can write the running total instead (1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4).

Can I make a blank chart with fewer rows?

Yes. Under Rows, choose wholes to sixths or wholes to eighths for younger kids.
