The fourth hundred (words 301–400) is where Fry's list starts to look like a third grade content vocabulary: questions, complete, measure, pattern, numeral, vowel and products sit next to everyday words like horse, door, money and morning. Contractions didn't and I'll appear too.
Most of these words are decodable for a strong third grader, so use the checklist to find the few that aren't automatic yet. Practice those with missing-letter and sentence sheets rather than drilling the whole hundred. For spelling, this hundred overlaps with typical third grade spelling lists.
Tips for using it
- Usually and however are long; break them into syllables when reading and spelling.
- Numeral and vowel are school words. Use them in math and phonics talk so they stick.
