Fry's second hundred (words 101–200) moves from basic function words to the words kids need for school reading: sentence, answer, different, picture, study, learn and follow. It also has plurals like years and things, and irregular spellings such as through, does, great and should.
Print the checklist and check off what your child reads instantly. This hundred is usually taught in late first grade and second grade, after most of the first 100 are solid. The worksheets for this list work well in groups of 10: trace and write one day, find and color the next.
Tips for using it
- Through, does and great are the irregular ones. Put them on flash cards first.
- America is capitalized in the list; point out that names of places always start with a capital.
