Twenty four-digit numbers to round, grouped under headings for the nearest ten, hundred and thousand, so children practice finding the right digit for each place. No number is already rounded, and the key uses the standard rule: 5 or more rounds up.
Rounding is estimation's main tool: 3,487 + 2,912 is about 3,500 + 2,900. In the Common Core standards, 3rd graders round to the nearest 10 or 100 and 4th graders round to any place. For grade-level sheets, see rounding for 3rd grade and rounding for 4th grade.
Look at the tens digit. If it's 5 or more, round up; if it's 4 or less, round down. 3,487 rounds to 3,500 because the tens digit is 8.
The usual school rule rounds up: 2,450 rounded to the nearest hundred is 2,500.
