Th has two sounds. In thin, math and bath it's unvoiced: air only, no buzz. In this, that and then it's voiced: put your hand on your throat and you'll feel it buzz. Both are spelled th, so children read either one, but sorting them builds careful listening.
Your child reads each word in the word bank and writes it in the "th as in thin" or "th as in this" column. The answer key shows where each goes.
The voiced words here (this, that, than, them, then) are some of the most common words in English, so they're worth reading until automatic.
Tips for using it
- Hand on throat: if it buzzes, it's the th in this. If not, it's the th in thin.
- Read each column aloud after sorting to hear the difference.

Does th have two sounds?
Yes. Unvoiced th, as in thin and bath, and voiced th, as in this and then. The tongue is in the same place; only the voice changes.
Do kids need to know which th is which to read?
Not really; context sorts it out. Sorting helps with listening and pronunciation, and it's a fun way to practice th words.
