Blank number lines have the tick marks and arrows but no numbers, so one sheet works for any lesson. Label the ticks 0–10 one day, 40–50 the next, or count by 5s, 100s or quarters. Teachers also use blank lines as an assessment: give a start and end number and ask the student to fill in the rest.
This page prints eight blank lines with 11 ticks each. Change the tick count with From and To (for example 0 to 20 gives 21 ticks), and add smaller marks between the ticks for fractions. Turn on the answer key to print the same lines labeled with the range you chose.
Tips for using it
- Write only the first and last numbers, and have your child fill in everything between.
- Use one line for skip counting: label it 0, 5, 10 … and ask what number goes halfway.

What is an open number line?
An open number line has no tick marks at all, just a line where kids draw their own jumps. These blank lines have evenly spaced ticks, which is better for learning the order and spacing of numbers.
How many tick marks are on each line?
Eleven by default (0 to 10). Change From and To to set a different number of ticks.
