The 12s are the last table on most charts. The best strategy is to split 12 into 10 and 2: 12 × 7 = 70 + 14 = 84. Kids who know their 10s and 2s can work out any 12s fact in their head within a few seconds, and speed comes with practice. The 12s also show up in real life (a dozen eggs, inches in a foot, months in a year), which makes good word problems.

This page lists the 12 times table to 12 × 12 = 144, with a shuffled practice column and a skip-counting strip (12, 24, 36 … 144). Use the blank version and answer key as a final check before moving on to the full 1–12 chart.

For on-screen practice, play the 12 times table game: it opens on the 12s and brings back the facts your child misses.

Tips for using it

  • Ask real questions: how many eggs in 5 dozen? How many inches in 3 feet?
  • Practice 12 × 12 = 144 on its own. It's the most famous fact on the chart.
