The 6s are where many kids get stuck, so this page leans on strategies. First, 6 × n is 5 × n plus one more n: 6 × 7 = 35 + 7 = 42. Second, the 6s are the 3s doubled: 3 × 8 = 24, so 6 × 8 = 48. Third, an even number times 6 ends in the same digit it started with (6 × 4 = 24, 6 × 6 = 36, 6 × 8 = 48).

The sheet lists the 6 times table to 6 × 12, adds a shuffled practice column and a skip-counting strip (6, 12, 18 … 72). Use the blank version with the answer key for a daily two-minute check, and keep practicing the 6 × 7 and 6 × 8 pair, the two that trip kids up most.

For on-screen practice, play the 6 times table game: it opens on the 6s and brings back the facts your child misses.

Tips for using it

  • Use 'five plus one more': 6 × 9 = 45 + 9 = 54.
  • Practice 6 × 7 = 42 and 6 × 8 = 48 together so kids stop mixing them up.

Questions

What is the trick for the 6 times table?

Multiply by 5, then add one more of the number. Or double the 3s answer. Both work for every 6s fact.

Why is the 6 times table hard?

It's the first table where kids can't rely on a simple pattern like the 2s, 5s or 10s. Strategies that build on known facts are the fix.
