A 6th grade math review in seven parts: dividing fractions, multiplying and dividing decimals, adding and subtracting integers, finding a percent of a number, completing equivalent ratios, solving one-step equations, and evaluating expressions. About two pages, with an answer key.

Sixth grade is the bridge to pre-algebra. The Common Core standards add ratios and rates (including percents), dividing fractions by fractions, fluent decimal operations, negative numbers, and writing and solving one-step equations. Integer addition and subtraction is formally a 7th grade standard in the Common Core, but many programs, and states such as Texas, teach it in 6th grade, so it's included here. For extra fraction practice, use dividing fractions and multi-digit multiplication.

Tips for using it

  • Dividing fractions: keep, change, flip.
  • For equations, do the opposite operation to both sides: x + 7 = 15 means subtract 7.

Questions

What math is taught in 6th grade?

Ratios, rates and percents; dividing fractions; multi-digit division and decimal operations; negative numbers and the coordinate plane; expressions and one-step equations; area, surface area and volume; and an introduction to statistics.

Is 6th grade math pre-algebra?

Partly. Sixth grade introduces variables, expressions and one-step equations, which are the start of pre-algebra. Full pre-algebra is usually 7th or 8th grade.
