Most kindergarten standards expect children to read simple CVC words by the end of the year, and to spell them by sound. This sheet uses large print and big handwriting lines: your child reads a CVC word, traces it, and writes it alone.
The words mix all five short vowels, balanced so no vowel dominates. If your child is just starting, choose one vowel from the pattern menu (short a is the usual first) and work up to the mixed sheet.
Kindergarten phonics works best in small daily doses. Ten words on one page is a good size: a few minutes of reading and writing, finished with a win.
Start with short a words like cat, map and sat, then short i, o, u and e. Being able to sound out any CVC word matters more than knowing a set list.
Many children begin blending CVC words in the first half of kindergarten, once they know most letter sounds, and read them fluently by year's end. Every child's timing is a little different.
