Paste your child's spelling list and this page turns it into a word search. The example uses a 2nd-grade style list built on two vowel patterns, ai and ay (rain, play) and oa and ow (boat, snow), hidden across, down and diagonally in a 12 × 12 grid.
A word search works best as one practice activity among several during a spelling week: it trains kids to notice the exact letter order, which is what spelling tests check. When a list is built on patterns, the hunt reinforces them, because kids start looking for the ai or ow inside each word. Make a new puzzle each week, or print two different versions with Different puzzles so you have a Tuesday sheet and a Thursday sheet.
Tips for using it
- Before searching, have your child sort the list by spelling pattern.
- Use Hard on the day before the test. Backwards words force kids to check every letter.
- Add 2 or 3 review words from last week's list to keep them fresh.

Can I save my spelling list?
The page address updates with your words, so you can bookmark it or send the link to a grandparent or tutor. Opening the link rebuilds the same list.
Do word searches help with spelling?
They help kids notice letter order and familiar patterns, but they are recognition practice. Pair them with writing the words from memory, which is what a spelling test asks for.
