A 120 chart extends the hundreds chart by two rows, from 101 to 120. It matches the Common Core 1st grade standard to count to 120, starting at any number, and to read and write numbers in that range (1.NBT.A.1). Those two extra rows matter: crossing 100 is where many kids get stuck, writing "1001" for 101 or skipping from 109 to 200.

Seeing 101 directly under 91 and 110 under 100 shows that the pattern keeps going: one hundred, then the same ones and tens again. Use it for counting on past 100, adding tens (95 + 10 = 105), and spotting the 1 in the hundreds place.

Tips for using it

  • Practice counting across 100 out loud: 97, 98, 99, 100, 101, 102.
  • Ask your child what is the same about 14 and 114 on the chart.

Questions

Why use a 120 chart instead of a hundreds chart?

The 1st grade standard is counting to 120, and the extra rows help kids understand three-digit numbers just past 100.

Does the 120 chart come blank?

Yes. Choose Blank or Some missing under Fill, and turn on the answer key to check.
