Forty facts where both numbers are 1 through 9: the 81 core facts that the Common Core standards expect children to know from memory by the end of 3rd grade. No 0s, 10s, 11s or 12s, so every problem is a real fact to recall.

The facts are dealt so each pair appears before any repeats. Use it as a quick check of which facts are automatic and which still need work. Practice the weak ones with single-table sheets like the 6 times table or 8 times table, then check again.

Tips for using it

  • Mark facts that take more than three seconds and practice those tomorrow.
  • Square facts (6 × 6, 7 × 7, 8 × 8) are worth learning as a set.

Questions

How many single-digit multiplication facts are there?

81, from 1 × 1 to 9 × 9. Because of the turnaround rule (3 × 7 = 7 × 3), there are only 45 different facts to learn.

What grade learns single-digit multiplication?

3rd grade. By the end of the year, the standards expect all products of two one-digit numbers from memory.
